As an adult, I have realized that there are certain words of encouragement from my childhood that come to mind from time to time. These phrases are said in the voices of my grandparents and my parents. Their influence has shaped who I am today as a professional woman, wife, and mom. I call them my pillars because they have held me up since I was a little girl.
As I look at my children, I desire for them to have a solid ground to stand on as they grow and develop. I want them to have similar phrases, statements, and words that come to mind regularly when they begin to feel discouraged, lonely, or even at the best of times in their lives. What our children hear over and over again will stick with them. Words have power and seep slowly down into our hearts and become beliefs. Continue reading
You guys, I’m so excited. The eternal winter has finally ended and the warm weather is, officially, here to stay! I’m so ready for these warm days because it means soaking in that precious Vitamin D and spending my days by the pool. This year is particularly special, though. This summer, I’ll have a newborn. While I could freak out about the fact that I’ll now have two kids under 2.5, I’m deciding to be so excited about the fact that now I get to make summers special for my own kids! Newborns are extra, extra, extra vulnerable, though, so I went on a search for the best baby tents to keep my little one protected for the long days we’ll inevitably spend outside this year. As a new or expecting parent, it can be extremely overwhelming trying to decide exactly what you will need for your baby. You could empty your bank account filling up your home with every cute item from the baby aisles or while shopping online. It seems like there are new baby items coming on the market all the time. As a new mom or dad, you might feel like you need to buy everything advertised to make it easier as you think about bringing your new baby home for the first time. But, how do you answer the question, “What do I really need in my baby’s nursery?”
As a mom, I have thought about this a lot and I have narrowed down which items I think are really necessary to complete your baby’s nursery. In the last five years, I have also had to move a lot so I have had to think simply when it came to my home including the baby’s nursery. I want my baby’s nursery to be functional, adorable, and not overly cluttered. Continue reading
When it comes to parenting little ones, sleep is a big deal not only the children but also for the parents. Sleep challenges are not limited to when your child is an infant but can affect them at every stage including the toddler years.
Your little one can struggle to settle down, to fall asleep, and to stay asleep for the night. It is normal for your toddler to wake up in the night and not be able to go back to sleep without your help and attention.
Tantrums at bedtime can also occur during these young years when your toddler is battling separation anxiety or fear of the dark. There is no one solution for all sleep challenges with our children but creating bedtime routines can be extremely helpful to building healthy sleep habits for your toddlers. Continue reading
If you could see my son’s room, you would know very quickly what his daddy does for a living. He is a news helicopter pilot in a major city. We have all types of toy helicopters that he loves to play with that he has gotten over the years. He has also received quite a few from family and friends because of his daddy’s career. We often joke that he has his own fleet of helicopters.
As he gets older, I know that this love of helicopters is only going to grow. It is so fun to see children use their imaginations with fun toys like remote control helicopters. He pretends that he is a rescue helicopter coming to save the day or he pretends that he is reporting the traffic like his daddy. Even though my husband flies real ones, he also enjoys interacting with our son with his toy helicopters. They fly them around the house and even outside. Continue reading
Any parent of a toddler-aged child knows that they are full of energy. They need somewhere to be able to work out all of that stored up energy. Being active is fun for your toddler and for you as the parent. Whether your little one is just pulling up, learning to walk, or running circles around you, climbing toys are beneficial for their development. Plus, they are so fun for toddlers and for parents as they see their children enjoy themselves and learning new skills. Continue reading
New parents know that sleep is extremely important for both mom and dad and of course, the new baby. You want to do whatever you can to help your little one sleep consecutive hours in a safe, secure, and comfortable environment.
So, where is the best place for a baby to sleep?
As an expectant mom, I felt overwhelmed by all the choices I needed to make even before my baby was born. Everyone warned me that I would be sleep deprived and up all hours of the night to care for my new arrival. I asked for advice on things I could do to prepare for our little one. Many of my mom friends stressed the importance of sleep. Continue reading
Your toddler is likely active, curious, and learning new things every day. Intentionally incorporating sensory play into your child’s routine will provide needed development for your little one. Sensory toys are specifically designed to change how a child’s brain reacts to the different senses like touch, sound, movement, and sight. All developing children can benefit from sensory play. Those who develop these types of toys focus on children and their developmental stages and progress. The distinction of sensory toys to other types of toys is the way they specifically help develop, enhance, and also refine a child’s senses.
Simply, a sensory play includes any hands-on activity that stimulates your toddler’s senses. As your child explores and creates, a sensory play will support fine and gross motor skills, language development, and social interaction. Sensory development helps children use their senses to gather information and learn. Continue reading
When a new baby is on the way, there are so many decisions to make. You need to select a car seat, a crib, and a stroller. Then, if you want to be more organized and prepared, you may want to consider other important items such as a box of diapers, baby bottles, pacifiers, and a diaper bag.
The list can be overwhelming and feel endless. Some of your choices can happen fairly quickly just by asking a friend for a suggestion or you may find exactly what you want as you stroll through your favorite store or browse online. Others require a bit more thought and research.
I would suggest that taking the time to select the perfect diaper bag for your family will take a bit of consideration but it will save you from frustration down the road. You do not want to find yourself without the necessary items needed to keep your baby fed and clean while away from home. It is no fun to have to cancel plans simply because you are missing something essential for your little one. Continue reading
